Federal authorities on Monday arrested a 24-year-old transgender woman seeking asylum in the United States outside a courtroom immediately following a hearing related to her case, a coalition of organizations that includes the ACLU of Oregon said in a news release. The pro-immigration advocacy coalition, Oregon for All, said the woman sought asylum in the United States after “suffering violence on account of her gender identity and sexual orientation at the hands of a dangerous cartel” in Mexico.

The northern lights graced our skies overnight Sunday but if you missed the sky show, you may have another chance tonight. On Monday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration extended its geomagnetic storm warning through Tuesday. Aurora enthusiasts have the best chance of seeing the phenomenon in the state of Washington, although the likelihood of one occurring there was still low, according to the latest forecast put out by NOAA.

A Tigard police officer pleaded guilty Thursday to a single count of second-degree official misconduct and resigned from the police department after prosecutors said he lied about how he accessed text messages from a suspect’s cellphone, the Tigard Police Department said. Jacob Teeny will also surrender his police certification to the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training and will never again be able to serve as a police officer in the state.

Police in Gresham said Thursday they have identified a person of interest in a 2023 New Year’s Eve hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured. Investigators also released dramatic video showing the crash and the driver running over the motorcyclist. At about 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2023, police said a driver of a red Chevy Sonic rear-ended the motorcyclist near Division Street and Southeast 202nd Avenue. Police said the driver drove away from the scene.
