The weather service this morning reports that several inches of snow are expected in the higher terrain of Central New York with mostly rain or rain snow mix in the valleys.

Syracuse, N.Y. — A woman pedestrian was killed this weekend in Syracuse when she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident, police said. The 60-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene early Sunday morning, Syracuse police said in a news release Monday. Police did not release her name at this time. The woman was struck at about 12:05 a.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Burnet Avenue. The driver did not remain at the scene, police said.

Syracuse, N.Y. — A man who drove at a high speed through a red light in Clay last month, colliding with another car, killing himself and another person, suffered a medical episode prior to the crash, troopers said Tuesday. An autopsy of the driver, Michael Paetow, revealed he suffered from extensive heart disease that caused him to have the medical episode, troopers said in a news release. There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol in his system, trooper said.

DeWitt, N.Y. — A DeWitt police car was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Sunday afternoon. The crash happened at 2:53 p.m. at Thompson Road and Kinne Road. Syracuse, N.Y. — A 58-year-old man has been arrested after Syracuse police say he put a dog in a plastic bag and dumped it in a trash can last week. The dog, a poodle mix, was treated for injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, the Syracuse Police Department said in a social media post Tuesday. Anthony Munford was charged with abandonment of an animal and four counts of animal cruelty, all misdemeanors, police said. He was issued an appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date.
