CENTRAL ILLINOIS, Ill. (WCIA) — Just southeast of Decatur there is an anomaly where Macon, Shelby, and Moultrie counties meet. It’s known as Dalton City, but to some, it goes by a different name: Racehorse Flats. About 50 years ago it got its nickname because farmers in this area wanted to be the first in the field and the first done planting. Stu Ellis sat down with Dale Plumer, the general manager of Heritage Green in Dalton City to talk about how the planting season is going.

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Farm Progress Show returns to Decatur this summer for a milestone year. It was 20 years ago that a permanent exhibit site was built in Decatur to host the show. Since then, the Farm Progress Show has alternated between Decatur and Boone, Iowa, every other year. “Time goes pretty quickly. It just seems like yesterday we were building this site,” said Show Director Matt Jungmann.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois is hosting a party this Friday that will showcase research that farmers can apply to their own farm fields. U of I Extension hosting annual agriculture contest for high school students Stu Ellis sat down with PhD students Peyton Sorensen and Sam Leskanich to preview the party and some of the features people can expect to see. The party will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center.
