FISCHER — In the second contest between the district and Comal ISD rivals, Davenport softball defeated Canyon Lake 12-2 in a five-inning contest on Friday, April 11. The win gives the Wolves the 2-0 season series sweep over the Hawks, winning the first contest 9-1 on March 25. In the game, the Wolves held a 1-0 lead through three innings, but their bats caught fire at the top of the fourth as they scored eight runs. They tacked on another three at the top of the fifth for the run-rule victory.

After a fifth straight playoff season, New Braunfels girls soccer is collecting some postseason recognition. The Unicorns had seven players receive all-district accolades from District 26-5A for their on-field performance. Senior defender Grasyn Unruh and senior midfielder Kaitlin Sprey led the Unicorns as the team’s first-team all-district selections. Senior goalkeeper Payton Mills and senior defender Kennedie Moline followed as second-team honorees.

BOERNE — After losing the first of its two-game series, New Braunfels baseball defeated Boerne-Champion in a 3-0 shutout on the road Friday night. The Unicorns fell 5-2 to the Chargers earlier in the week, but pitcher Nolan Moore made the difference in game two. He pitched a shutout with 14 strikeouts while only allowing one hit in the game. New Braunfels got a 1-0 lead at the top of the third inning.

SAN ANTONIO — After three straight wins over New Braunfels, Sweeny and Del Valle, Smithson Valley fell to San Antonio Wagner 4-1 in the first of a two-game series. The Rangers struggled to get their bats going, with four hits in the game, while the Thunderbirds scored all four of their runs in the first three innings.

GEORGETOWN — Davenport’s girls soccer season ended one goal short of a storybook ending. The Wolves lost 2-1 in the Class 4A-I state championship to the now four-peat state champion Celina Bobcats on Thursday at Georgetown’s Birkelbach Field. Despite it being their first-ever state championship appearance, the Wolves led their powerhouse opponents 1-0 at halftime, before the Bobcats scored two goals in the second half to win.
