A South Elgin man facing charges of possessing child sexual abuse materials is free on pretrial release. Colin J. McCambridge, 38, of the 900 block of Kane Street, is charged with 14 counts of possession of child pornography, authorities announced. The Kane County Child Exploitation Unit investigated the case, according to a news release from the state’s attorney’s and sheriff’s offices. Prosecutors asked to have him detained pretrial.

Geneva is replacing underground electrical cables in four areas starting in July. The city says it will improve the reliability of electrical service. The work will be done July 7 to Aug. 18 on South Harrison Street near Spring Street; Aug. 18 to Sept. 8 on James Street west of Ninth Street; Sept. 9-26 in the 2000 block of South Batavia Avenue; and Sept. 27 to Oct. 29 on James Street from Third to Fifth streets. Landscaping will be restored after construction is finished.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is getting a new, niftier robot to help it disable bombs and do other tasks. The county board approved the $353,071 purchase of a Boston Dynamics Spot mobile robot on June 10. The sheriff is buying it from FlyMotion LLC of Tampa, Florida, a company that sells robots, drones and communications devices. The purchase was budgeted, with the money coming from the sheriff’s new vehicle fund.

A former Downers Grove South High School teacher accused of sexually abusing a student is facing 52 new charges. Christina Formella was arraigned Tuesday on 20 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, plus multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child and six counts of grooming. The DuPage County grand jury indicted her on the additional charges in May, but the indictment was sealed until Tuesday morning.
