An affordable housing apartment building is being proposed for a former rock quarry site in Batavia. The Fox River Affordable Housing Corp., in conjunction with the Housing Authority of Elgin, is proposing a three-story, 72-unit building at 400 S. River St. (Route 25). The Residences at River Point is estimated to cost $24.2 million. The developer is asking for $1.2 million in aid from the city. The Batavia City Council will discuss the matter at its committee-of-the-whole meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Chiropractor accused of sexually abusing 2 teen patients

Dr. Murtaza Hameed An Aurora chiropractor has been charged with sexually abusing two teenage patients. Pretrial release was denied on Saturday for Dr. Murtaza Hameed, 46, of the 0-100 block of Bunting Lane, Naperville. Hameed is charged with felony criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, attempted criminal sexual assault and misdemeanor battery. Aurora police and the DuPage County Children’s Center investigated the allegations.
Man detained after hitting garage in police chase in Elmhurst

A man who crashed a car into the garage of an Elmhurst house while driving away from police will be detained pretrial. DuPage County Judge Demetrios Panoushis made the ruling on Saturday for Arthur Turner, 38, of the 400 block of North St. Louis Avenue, Chicago. Turner is charged with burglary, retail theft, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and aggravated battery.

Carpentersville man accused of making video of sexual assault of child

A Carpentersville man has been charged with making child sexual abuse materials by assaulting a child while she was asleep. Federico Vega Jr., 23, of the 1800 block of Papoose Road, is charged with three counts of manufacturing child pornography, one count of criminal sexual assault, eight counts of possessing child pornography, and three counts of misdemeanor criminal sexual abuse, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Caiden W. Geisterfer A Cary man has been charged with possession and dissemination of child pornography. Cary police arrested Caiden W. Geisterfer, 21, Tuesday at his home in the 1300 block of New Haven Drive. He faces 10 charges of possession and eight counts of dissemination, according to a police news release. The release said police received information from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in late December. They searched the Geisterferâ€™s home Tuesday.

Michael Farris A Kane County judge changed his mind Thursday and ordered that a Montgomery man charged with child sex crimes be detained pretrial. Judge John Barsanti granted prosecutors’ motion to have 85-year-old Michael Farris await trial in jail. Farris faces 219 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual abuse, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a relative and aggravated criminal sexual abuse by a person more than five years older than the victim.

Man killed in crash with truck in Montgomery

One man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his car hit a truck in Montgomery, police report. A Nissan sedan was driving south on Route 31 and hit a northbound semitractor-trailer truck that was turning left onto Caterpillar Drive. The crash happened around 5:17 p.m. The Nissanâ€™s driver, Jason Messick, 40, of Oswego, died at the scene. The Kendall County coroner will do an autopsy on Friday.
