RATHANNA Community Hall buzzed with excitement recently as Blackstairs Children’s Theatre showcased two enchanting productions of and . Under the direction of award-winning Irish playwright and poet Darren Donohue, the junior class, aged six to eight years, and the senior class, aged nine to 12, delivered performances that left audiences spellbound. The hall was filled to capacity on both nights, illustrating the community’s support and enthusiasm for local talent.

ANTISOCIAL behaviour at St Mary’s Cemetery in Carlow has forced some locals to rethink where they will be buried, fearing they could never be allowed to ‘rest in peace’ there. For months, the beloved town cemetery has been at the centre of reports of late-night parties, loud music, drinking and intimidation, creating anger, fear and resentment among the hundreds of families who visit St Mary’s.

CO CARLOW’s female firefighters now have a specific forum to raise issues but also to encourage other women to become part of this invaluable role. Last week marked the first meeting of Carlow County Fire and Rescue Service Female Firefighter Network, where the county’s three female firefighters met senior management to discuss items such as buildings, facilities, PPE, uniform and improving communication and workplace culture.

AN URGENT review of Carlow Town Bus Service has been called for as questions persist about the possibility of a third route, greater access to Carlow Train Station and the whereabouts of the town’s previously-promised electric buses. At a recent meeting of Carlow Municipal District, cllr Andrea Dalton pointed out that the very successful town bus was now two years’ old and there was “supposed to be a review of the bus routes”.
