    AN UNDER-12 soccer match in Carlow town had to be abruptly abandoned when a coach was violently headbutted in front of dozens of stunned children and parents. Gardaí and an ambulance were called to the shocking scene, which happened during a match between two Hanover Harps U12 boys teams, when one of the coaches was approached “out of nowhere” by a parent from his own team, then viciously headbutted.

    IT WAS the ultimate hoedown in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow recently as teams of energetic line-dancers took on a giant danceathon with gusto!A six-hour line dance marathon was held in aid of Focus Ireland, raising a phenomenal €11,300 for this worthy cause. Focus Ireland is a non-profit organisation that provides services for people who are homeless and people at risk of homelessness in Ireland. Carlow is among the counties where it provides services.

    THE SUN shone down on a special event to remember a special lady recently as Clareville Montessori School, Carlow held a hugely successful 5km family run. Owner of Clareville, Aisling Nolan, supported by Nicole Bolger and Sharon Fitzharris from the school, organised the 5km family run in aid of Carlow Hospice but also to support the children of the late Mairead Farrell from Cois Dara, Chapelstown and originally from Gowran, Co Kilkenny, who sadly lost her life to cancer in January this year.

    A NEW seat has been placed at Bennekerry Cross offering passersby the chance to sit, relax, chat with neighbours or simply take time out to watch the world go by. The new seat marks the 25th anniversary of the planting of two oak trees at the junction, which was organised in 2000 by the two parishes in the community – Bennekerry Parish and Urglin Church, within the Carlow Union of Parishes.
