AN OPPORTUNITY to step into times past is once again open to the public with the reopening for the season of County Carlow Military Museum. The museum boasts the perfect setting, housed in a late 19th century church on the Athy Road within the grounds of St Dympna’s Hospital. It is dedicated to the collection, preservation and display of military memorabilia heritage, with all of its artefacts donated by families of former servicemen and women.

STAFF and guests at the Talbot Hotel Carlow put their mental strength, physical stamina and generous nature to the ultimate test recently and emerged with five stars!The local hotel held a fundraising five days in aid of St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen and raised a fantastic €2,060 for this worthy cause in our local community.

THE HSE has taken the decision to revise its plans for the Kelvin Grove site and is now separating the new pre-school for Holy Angels Day Care Centre and the Children Disability Network Team (CDNT). Initially, both projects were to be located at Kelvin Grove, Athy Road, Carlow, but in recent weeks the decision was taken to upgrade St Dympna’s Hospital to accommodate the CDNT, while the Holy Angel’s project will progress as planned on the Kelvin Grove site.

COUNCILLORS have this week expressed frustration and anger that a vital piece of road infrastructure in Carlow town looks likely to be years away from completion. At last week’s meeting of Carlow Municipal District, the issue of the town’s Southern Relief Road was discussed, including a section seen as vital to solving the town’s traffic problems – the completion of the L4058, also known as Snoddy’s Road, which runs from the Éire Óg roundabout to the Wexford Road.

CONSTRUCTION on the pedestrian Railway Link, providing greater connectivity between Carlow Railway Station and the town centre, will begin this summer. At a recent meeting of Carlow Municipal District, officials confirmed they expect to select a contractor from the tenders submitted in the coming weeks, with a view to a contractor being on site this summer.
