When his son Lelea was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of seven, Ben Fonua said the family's lives were changed "overnight". While he now said the diagnosis was perhaps a "blessing in disguise", Fonua acknowledges the family - who hail from Tonga - lacked awareness of the nutritional value of the food they were eating.

Members of the Samoan community are calling for an overturn of the Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act 1982, saying it is an issue of justice and fairness - even if the number of those affected is not large. At a rally in support of the Restoring Citizenship Removed by Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act Bill on Saturday, Green Party MP Teanau Tuiono said the "community want to have the issue resolved".

The New Zealand Olympic team is calling on everyone to get their cycling on. With under 80 days until the Paris games, the team has launched 'Tour de Fern-Sprint for the Fern' in partnership with Cycling NZ. The event encourages people to use the state-of-the art Technogym Ride smart bikes to have a taste of what it's like to race 300 metres along the Champs-Élysées. "It's so cool you can get that little experience of being in France", Olympic medallist Ellesse Andrews said.

First person - The hopping, hooping Harlem Globetrotters graced the fields of Eden Park for a kick-off and shoot-off with the Auckland Blues. As entertaining as it is to watch professionals from two very different sports compete against one another, I was really intrigued to learn who the Harlem Globetrotters are and see if any of their shot-shooting skills would rub off on me.
