Clare TD Cathal Crowe has formally corrected the D√°il record over his comments, after significant criticism was levelled against him. During a speech in the D√°il on Wednesday on Gaza, Mr Crowe said the ongoing bombardment of Gaza and withholding of aid is the ‚Äúworst we have seen in our lifetime‚ÄĚ.

The Government is to repeal the Offences Against the State Act and introduce a permanent non-jury court, justice minister Jim OâCallaghan has confirmed. A previous review of the Special Criminal Court, and its surrounding legislation, delivered a majority and minority report with recommendations for changes to the non-jury court. The majority report called for the replacement of the existing Special Criminal Court with a more permanent non-jury court, with tighter controls for its use.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) should be able to compel supermarkets to provide regular reports on grocery pricing and probe suspected price gouging, a Labour TD has said. Labour‚Äôs Ged Nash is proposing new laws to give additional powers to the CCPC to allow the watchdog to do so. ‚ÄúGrocery prices have remained historically high and they are climbing with no sign of them plateauing or certainly no sign of them coming down,‚ÄĚ the Louth TD said.

Mark Cassidy, the Central Bank‚Äôs director of financial stability, warned TDs and senators at the Oireachtas housing committee against the return of 100% mortgages. ‚ÄúWe think that would be a bad idea,‚ÄĚ Mr Cassidy said.
