    LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The Comanche County Health Department is continuing its offering of food handler classes throughout 2025, with the second class for Spanish speakers taking place on Monday, May 12. Those who attend the one-hour class will not only receive vital knowledge in food handling, but will also receive a valid certificate that can be presented to the City of Lawton for a Food Handler’s Permit. Monday’s course will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and will be presented in Spanish.

    LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - On Saturday, those who made their way out to Naturescape Nursery could walk away with a free tree, well, if they were one of the first 300 in line. The event sponsored by Parks Jones Realty offers several variety of trees to each household that shows up to the event. The giveaway usually takes place on Arbor Day; however, this year’s event was postponed due to severe weather. It was originally started as a way to get involved in the community.

    LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - On Saturday, all across the country, residents could leave food out in a bag left for them in their mailboxes, with that food making its way to the local food bank. The effort, Stamp Out Hunger, is led by the National Association of Letter Carriers. The event is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. All donations in Lawton are taken to the Post Office on West Gore Boulevard before making their way to the Lawton Food Bank.

    SNYDER, Okla. (KSWO) - On this day in 1905, in Snyder, the second-deadliest tornado in Oklahoma history devastated the community. While reports vary, the Oklahoma Historical Society says 113 were killed in the tornado. The National Weather Service said the tornado was one of the worst natural disasters in early American history.
