NORFOLK, Va. — When winter weather is expected in any part of the country, transportation workers warm up the infamous salt trucks. Crews work hours before a snow or ice event to try and make sure the roads don't freeze over. The reason that salt is used to cure the streets is due to its chemical makeup. The number one salt used to help potentially icy roads is made up of sodium chloride, more commonly known as rock salt. This is the same chemical salt you find at the dinner table.

Remember, feels-like temperatures are related to what the air feels like on your skin. Wind chill takes into account the air temperatures and the speed of the winds five feet above the ground. The body’s natural response to cold environments is to produce goosebumps.

NORFOLK, Va. — From early October through now, we've struggled to squeeze out any substantial rainfall. From Monday's cold front though, we finally received more than 0.1" of rain in a day. On Monday, passing light showers dropped 0.17" at the Norfolk International Airport. Monday's very small rainfall total surpassed the entire month of October's rainfall by 0.11". Veterans Day accounts for one of the only two days we've received rain at ORF.
