Baum said the family-focused program has served teens ages 13 through 19 for over 17 years. "We open up those corridors to talk about these issues more openly without judgment," Baum said.

"I get frustrated at times when I think about I'm able to help these people because I lost my son," said Zegarra, founder of Ethan's Purpose Foundation. It's been 6.5 years since Zegarra lost her son, Ethan, to suicide. "It's easy to look back and think what if, but we didn't know at the time," Zegarra said. Now, she understands the difficult challenges facing many families.

She and her siblings, who help run the business, look forward to the festival every year.
