GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - The Georgetown County School District will implement a new cell phone policy this year that bars students from using communication devices throughout the school day. South Carolina lawmakers already passed a bill that will bar cell phone use in school, but the Department of Education is responsible for creating the policy. Those rules won’t fully go into effect until January 2025, however, GCSD will implement a cell phone ban at the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Grand Park Athletics Complex in Myrtle Beach will be renamed after a Vietnam and Air Force veteran. League director, and territory executive for Under Armour, Kenn Francis said they hand out scholarships every year at the annual tournament. MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Friends and family surprised a Marine Corps Veteran for his 96th birthday on Friday night. Tony Lange served his country as a marine in the Korean War. He then continued with a career of service as a firefighter for FDNY and then a nurse in an NYC trauma center. His friend, Lowell Rhodes, said he doesn’t talk about his military career often, but it’s something he’s proud of. “He’s really proud of his service and we’re proud of him,” said Rhodes.

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina is the first school in the Sun Belt Conference to hire a NIL General Manager, and they brought back a football alumnus to do the job. Nicholas Clark attended CCU from 2013 to 2017 and stepped on the field as a defensive back. The teal turf didn’t even exist until Clark’s senior year and now he’s hoping to be a part of even more change in the athletics department. Clark previously served as executive assistant athletic director at Tennessee State University.
