The public will get an opportunity to weigh in on a crucial part of the proposed casino in Uniondale when the Hempstead Town Board holds a hearing Tuesday on rezoning the site. Though developer Las Vegas Sands announced last month that it will not seek a casino license from New York State to build a new gaming resort on the county-owned Nassau Coliseum site, Newsday reported that the Nevada-based company is seeking a third party to take over its bid.

Republican Hempstead Town Supervisor Donald X. Clavin Jr. will run in November to be a Nassau County judge and will be cross-endorsed by both parties, County GOP Chairman Joseph Cairo said Tuesday. Nassau County Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs confirmed that Clavin is being cross-endorsed. Clavin on Monday declined his party's nomination for a fourth term as town supervisor. That race became wide-open after the Democrats' pick for supervisor nominee, Justin Brown, also declined his nomination Monday.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Donald X. Clavin Jr., who is serving his third term in that role, will not seek reelection in November, a Nassau County Board of Elections official said Monday. Clavin declined his nomination on Monday shortly before a 5 p.m. deadline, James Scheuerman, Democratic commissioner of the Nassau County Board of Elections, said. Clavin did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

The Town of Hempstead plans to buy the Capri Motor Inn for $9 million in a deal that will settle lawsuits over the condemned property, according to town and court documents. The Hempstead Town Board earlier this week approved borrowing the money to purchase the property at 434 Hempstead Tpke.
