The Lady Indians finished the regular season with three wins, including a huge game at Bear Lake which tied the series and Preston won the tiebreaker for first seed. The Indians will host the winner of the Snake River and American Falls game on Saturday, May 2 in the 4A District 5 Softball Tournament. Preston picked up a big district win, 14-9, over Bear Lake. The Indians handed the Bears their first district loss. Preston picked up the win despite seven errors as it had 14 hits.

A lack of depth hasn't prevented the Pirates from having another strong season in boys wrestling. West Side crowned four champions and had five other finalists at the 1A-2A-3A Fifth District Championships on Wednesday in Dayton.

A lack of depth prevented Preston's boys wrestling team from ultimately contending for a district title, but it was still a good day for the Franklin County program. The Indians crowned four champions and had three other finalists at the 5A Fifth District Championships, which were contested Wednesday in Preston. Century reigned supreme, as expected, with 346 points, followed by Pocatello with 200 and Preston with 166.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Business of the Year award which went to Spit Shine Car Wash owned by Scott and Kim Palmer. Other nominees were Cache Valley Bank, Canyon Creek Dental, Edwards Floral, Flying S Title & Escrow, Riverside Production Company and Ron Keller Tire.

A crowd of dozens gathered in the cold morning air to remember those who lost their lives in Jan. 29, 1863, Bear River Massacre. The annual memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Monument four miles north of Preston on Highway 91. Dennis Alex, Chairman of the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Tribal Council welcomed visitors and offered an opening prayer after which colors were posted.

They travel to Boise on Friday, Dec. 13 through Saturday, Dec. 14 for a tournament. The Pirates played their home opener on Dec. 7 against Marsh Valley. It was a battle back and forth throughout but West Side pulled ahead in the final 12 seconds and went on to win it 58-51.

By By TERESA CHIPMAN and JASON TURNER Preston opened the wrestling season at home and then traveled to American Falls for the Dahlke Duals on Dec. 6. The Indians travel to the Cache Valley Classic on Saturday, Dec. 14. Preston faced nine different teams at the Dahlke Duals where they beat Oakley 36-24 and Wood River 48-18. The Indians lost to American Falls 23-66, Bear Lake 22-54, Challis 41-42, Kimberly 18-52, Payette 36-42 and Twin Falls 15-72.

The Lady Indians were unable to topple first seeded Pocatello and their season ended with a 1-9 loss to the Thunder on Oct. 17. "Hats off to Poky they played well," said Coach Brandon Lyon. "But I'm so proud of my girls. It was 0-0 after 25 minutes and the girls were battling and sticking to the game plan perfectly. Poky got their first goal off a cross that we weren't quite able to clear and then a second shortly after off a deflection. They got two late in the first half for a 4-0 lead.
