A deadly drug overdose in San Francisco's Tenderloin District is not an unusual event. But what is unusual is the city's medical examiner telling one family their loved one died when they were still alive and not telling the dead man's family of the loss. In 2021, a man was found dead from an overside in the Dahlia Hotel. He was later identified as James Robinson. The Robinson family requested he be cremated, and they received the ashes from the medical examiner.

Hundreds of people turned out for the opening night of the Union Square ice rink on Wednesday. Many in the Bay Area have become accustomed to enjoying the winter tradition surrounded by some of the region's most iconic stores. Dana Gillis of Oakland said she comes to the rink four or five times yearly. "I just like to come every year because it gets me in the spirit. It's fun to be in the community, and everyone is skating and having fun," she said.

New crime prevention techniques appear headed to San Francisco’s Union Square, and some will have a tree growing out of them. The idea is to prevent smash-and-grab burglars from driving right through the front door of those high-end stores. Tuesday’s announcement took place right in front of the Louis Vuitton store which was rammed early Monday morning. The car never made it into the store, and because police responded so quickly, the perpetrators left empty handed.

In what political observers are calling “unheard of,” Gov. Gavin Newsom has endorsed South Bay assemblyman Evan Low over former San Jose mayor Sam Liccardo in California's 16th Congressional District race. Liccardo and Low both want to go to Washington to represent the people of 16th Congressional District, which comprises part of Santa Clara County and the western half of San Mateo County. Newsom released the following statement on Monday:“Evan Low embodies the very best of California values.
