HOWELL — While it may not hold the title of Best Main Street in America this year, Downtown Howell is still in the Top 10. In USA Today’s 10BEST Readers' Choice Awards for Best Main Street, Howell took fourth place. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, took the top spot this year, followed by Emporia, Kansas, in second and Ogden, Utah in third.

HOWELL — Howell City Council passed multiple measures during its Monday, April 14, meeting, including, ending services provided to a local cemetery, a new sick time policy to comply with state law and appointing a deputy treasurer. The meeting ended when the council went into closed session for a discussion with the city attorney. City ends services to Mt. Olivet CemeteryIn another unanimous vote, council opted to end services provided to Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The Pinckney Downtown Development Authority, recently independent from the village planning commission, discussed key initiatives at its April meeting. The DDA explored relocating the community garden and the development of a user-friendly website with zoning information. Members also considered hiring a part-time administrator. The Livingston County Health Department released its 2024 annual report, highlighting accomplishments such as food establishment inspections and childhood immunizations. LCHD streamlined its immunization waiver process, transitioning to an online education module and reducing in-person appointment times. The department also held a Substance Use Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Resource Fair and continues to address the opioid crisis.

Dustin Crafton, 40, of Gregory, was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday, April 6, after being partially ejected from the car. A fundraiser via GoFundMe has been created to support Crafton’s wife and three children. As of Thursday, April 10, it had raised more than $33,000 of a $100,000 goal.
