The Georgetown Hoyas (8-17, 1-13 BIG EAST) welcomed the Villanova Wildcats (14-11, 7-7 BIG EAST) to the District for some Friday night hoops at Capital One Arena. Unfortunately for first-year head coach Ed Cooley and his Hoyas, their nine-game skid turned to double digits with a dispiriting 70-54 loss to a middling Villanova team stuck in year two of life after the retirement of legendary coach Jay Wright.

Georgetown men’s basketball (8-10, 1-6 BIG EAST) fell to Xavier (10-8, 4-3 BIG EAST) 92-91 on Friday, Jan. 19 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati. Led by excellent three-point shooting, the Hoyas started strong against the Musketeers in the first half, at one point going up by 14 points.

A late goal from graduate defender Brianne Riley gave No. 20 Georgetown Women’s Soccer (2-0-1, BIG EAST) the win over Bucknell (2-1, Patriot League) in the Hoyas’ home opener. Georgetown dominated the game from start to finish, as the Bison did not record a single shot attempt all game. The Hoyas recorded seven shots on target but were unable to find the back of the net until Riley stepped up in the 86th minute. Despite that, though, Georgetown looked threatening from the start.
