Platte County and Park Hill Schools have long contested the Airport Marriott's use of a state tax break on its KCI property. In effect, the hotel could see improvements it makes to the property reduce, rather than increase, its valuation. That, in turn, shrinks tax revenue. The county and school district's ongoing lawsuit about the statute's constitutionality could have bigger ramifications, too: Nearby industrial buildings also have benefited from the treatment.

The GSA's nationwide list of locations it wanted to sell originally included 443 properties. A revised list slashed that to eight, including one in KC. The General Services Administration appears to have right-sized its attempted right-sizing of what properties it owns around Kansas City. The federal government's landlord this week republished — and dramatically slashed — a nationwide list of "non-core assets," many of them offices and industrial buildings, it first released earlier this month.
