    There was horror on the streets of Oldham as a gunman opened fire on a taxi in broad daylight. A man was seriously injured in the suspected drive-by shooting in Shaw Road, in the Derker area of the town, at about 12.15pm today (Thursday). The victim was getting out of a taxi when he was blasted by a gunman on a motorbike, police said. The suspect then fled the scene while the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    Marcus Rashford has issued a statement in which he claims a tabloid newspaper plans to publish a photograph of him with a controversial "rapper". The Manchester United star took to social media to claim he had been contacted about the image ahead of an impending story. In a statement on his Instagram account this evening, Rashford denied having seen the picture before, and said he "does not know" the rapper.

    A violent thug who robbed a man as he walked through Manchester city centre after a night out has been jailed. Ahmed Elgamodi, 28, attacked the victim, who was visiting the city from Hong Kong, as he returned to his hotel at about 11.20pm on July 12 of last year. The man, who was in his 30s, had been out enjoying a few drinks when Elgamodi approached him in Back George Street and offered him some cannabis. Following a brief conversation, Elgamodi threw the man to the floor and assaulted him.

    The mother of Kiena Dawes has revealed the devastating impact her daughter's death has had on her granddaughter. Kiena, 23, took her own life following years of violent abuse from her partner, Ryan Wellings. Wellings, 30, was today (Thursday) jailed for six-and-a-half years after being convicted of the assault and abuse of Kiena. He was cleared of the unlawful killing of Kiena, who left a suicide note calling her partner a “monster” who had “killed me”.
