Victories come in different ways. Some arrive gift-wrapped, complete with a big red ribbon and a smiley face, thanks in part to an opponent’s misadventures. Others are achieved through exemplary performance, snatching victory from the jaws of possible defeat as they say. Some are expected. Others are not. The levels of satisfaction are decidedly different yet equally as joyous. No one was quite sure what to expect prior to the start of the second Junior Ohio Cup.

Northern Ohio Juniors split Fourball Matches; Junior Ohio Cup tied heading into Sunday SinglesA late entry and a late victory were the big stories on the first day of the second Junior Ohio Cup at the stoic Columbus Country Club on Saturday. The eight Fourball matches ended with two victories apiece and a 4-4 tie heading into Sunday’s 16 singles matches between junior players from the Northern Ohio PGA and their counterparts from the Southern Ohio Section.

LEWICKI, ATCHISON, MCGUIRE PREVAIL IN 50TH FINALSThree matches. Three divisions. More than 80 holes. And so many story lines. Perhaps it was only fitting for the 50th playing of the NOPGA Denny Shute Match Play Championships at Portage Country Club, and you have to imagine old Densmore would have liked it that way. Let’s begin by stating the obvious. Tom Atchison, Adam Lewicki, and Sean McGuire are the Match Play champions, winning their respective divisions on a bright, windy, and chilly day.
