The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has cut funding for several organizations, some of which have roots in Central Pennsylvania. While some people are happy with the recent cuts, seeming them necessary, others are left scratching their heads. A Carlisle youth organization is feeling the effects of those same cuts now. The executive director of SPY, Jeanna Som, said months ago the organization had tens of thousands of dollars approved for a summer program.

A few families are displaced from the recent weather — including the Bennett family who lives in Mechanicsburg. Johna Bennett is a beloved bus driver for the Mechanicsburg School District who had the unthinkable happen to her and her family early Monday. A tarp, now laying over part of the family's one-of-a-kind octagonal home after a massive oak tree sliced right through the roof.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Workers at a Steelton steel plant were surprised last week when they got a notice that their workplace will indefinitely idle its operations. It is expected that hundreds of positions at the Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton steel plant will be subjected to layoffs. About 550 people could be let go from the Dauphin County plant around June 30th.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A Harrisburg family is still without a home after an overnight fire spread to their house last Monday from a neighboring property. The Roberts family said they warned the city of Harrisburg about the home next door. “They were putting people in there just to make a dollar,” said James Roberts. The Harrisburg Fire Chief said the Allison Hill home that caught on fire was an illegally boarded home with more people living there than allowed.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — After several wildfires broke out in the Michaux State Forest and prompted evacuations of nearby homes, one family is recounting the experience. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources spent most of Monday monitoring Thompson Hollow Road—that’s one of the places that had the voluntary evacuations. A family that lives just a few miles away on Ridge Road told CBS 21 they had to think fast when they decided to evacuate.
