The criminal case against former North Kingstown high school coach Aaron Thomas will end next month with his sentencing on two misdemeanor convictions of battery, but several civil lawsuits remain pending against school officials alleging negligence for failing to protect students from Thomas’ so called “naked fat” testing. A Washington County jury on Monday, May 19, acquitted Thomas, 57, of one count of second-degree child molestation and one count of second-degree sexual assault.

Both battery charges are classified as misdemeanors.

PROVIDENCE – Jurors recessed for the day Thursday, May 15, in the trial of former North Kingstown high school coach Aaron Thomas without reaching a verdict in the so-called “naked fat test” case. The 12-member Superior Court jury has so far deliberated for about 5-and-a-half hours over two days. They will not deliberate Friday, May 16, because of a scheduling conflict.
