The Holy Family Catholic Parish has stopped holding Masses in the 130-year-old Immaculate Conception Church in Arnold because of recent storm damage to the building. The Rev. Gerald Blessing, Holy Family’s pastor, announced last week that Masses will now be held in the Parish Center behind the church, which is at 2300 Church Road.

Fox C-6 School District students were safely dismissed today, April 9, after the Seckman schools campus in Imperial was placed on a soft lockdown following threats of violence at the high school, district officials reported. All campus after-school activities were canceled today, according to the report.

More than 375 people participated in a “Hands Off” protest in Arnold last weekend, despite wet and stormy weather, Jefferson County Democrats chairwoman Jessie Shepherd said. The protest was one of about 1,200 held across the nation on April 5 to rally against President Donald Trump and his administration’s actions on government downsizing, the economy, immigration and human rights. “One of my favorite signs I saw said, ‘No sign is big enough to list all of the reasons I am here,’” Shepherd said.

Voters rejected the tax measures the Eureka Fire Protection District and the Meramec Valley R-3 School District had on Tuesday’s ballot. The Meramec Valley Ambulance District’s bond issue, however, passed, according to unofficial election results. Eureka Fire was seeking a tax increase of 34 cents per $100 assessed valuation, which voters narrowly rejected.
