Fifty police employees have received a warning after an internal investigation found they had accessed the case file related to the death of a Nelson officer for no good reason. On January 1 this year, Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming died after being struck by a car while out on foot patrol in the Buxton Square car park in central Nelson. Another officer was also seriously injured.

Two people are missing after a boat capsized off the South Taranaki coast on Sunday morning. Police were notified at around 10.15am that a boat had capsized about 200 metres offshore from Patea, with three people on board. One person was located in the water and now receiving treatment. A search was under way to locate the two missing people.
