Fifty police employees have received a warning after an internal investigation found they had accessed the case file related to the death of a Nelson officer for no good reason. On January 1 this year, Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming died after being struck by a car while out on foot patrol in the Buxton Square car park in central Nelson. Another officer was also seriously injured.

A 19-year-old Horowhenua man led police on a high speed chase through the middle of Levin after performing a burnout and losing a wheel that almost hit a nearby pedestrian, a court has heard. Taiawhio Wakefield-Taunoa had his restricted license for just one month when police were called to the street racer gathering on Hōkio Beach Rd at midnight on May 25.

The Police Commissioner says he fully supports the Assistant Commissioner's decision to sign off on exemptions from recruitment standards for two recruits. It comes after revelations Assistant Commissioner Jill Rogers personally signed off at least two exemptions from recruitment standards. On Wednesday, a police spokesperson confirmed in a statement that Rogers gave at least two approvals in the past year, and records were being checked to see if there were more.

Nigel McGrath made headlines after he was banned for eight years in July 2020. The ban came after he admitted charges of attempting to administer a prohibited substance by way of nasal gastric tube, refusing to make a statement, and obstructing a racecourse investigator.
