Instead, he views them as “neighborhood community establishments” run by funeral directors who care for all nearby residents. So when the director of Martin Hughes Funeral home in Concord learned that a number of Staten Island families feared they’d lost thousands of dollars for prepaid funeral services, he knew he had to step in and help.

And while Pride Month is traditionally celebrated in June, Staten Island festivities kickoff in May to allow Islanders to attend other LGBTQ+ events occurring across the city. And this year, the Island’s events extend into June.
