It was a very special occasion in Moyne Community School on Friday, April 11 as renowned former teacher Benny Reid launched his new book entitled ‘Out on Our Own: A History of the People and Places of Annaly and Breifne’Addressing the large audience, Benny said he and his wife Catherine, were particularly grateful to their former colleagues and past pupils who returned to Moyne for a very special occasion for them.

It was all happening at the entertainment marquee at the Longford ploughing championships in Ballymahon as local band 4Degrees West rocked the joint and revellers responded by rarely leaving the dance floor. Their version of Mr Brightside by The Killers is an anthem that has seen many a quiet party explode to life and it went down a treat with line dancing enthusiasts along the banks of the banks of the Royal Canal in Drinan.

A master plasterer who worked on the restoration of Longford’s St Mel’s Cathedral has been presented with a prestigious award. Mayo born plasterer George O’ Malley has been awarded a Master Certificate by the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers at a recent ceremony in London, the ultimate accolade and recognition of his outstanding craftsmanship and skill. The Certificate was presented to O’Malley by the Lord Mayo Alderman Alastair King in the Egyptian Hall at the Mansion House London.
