Longford’s local economy is poised for a massive boost with the creation of two hundred new jobs at Food Village’s €3 million state-of-the-art, 35,000sq ft facility at Mastertech Business Park. Food Village (foodvillage.ie) is the most innovative and largest provider of tech-enabled secondary school meals in the country and Minister of State at the Department of Finance and TD for Longford-Westmeath, Robert Troy, will officially open the new facility today (Thursday, May 29) at 4pm.

Two former students of Meán Scoil Mhuire, Longford have been awarded a prestigious All-Ireland Scholarship, sponsored by JP McManus, in recognition of their exceptional Leaving Certificate results in 2024. Khadija Mahmood and Naida Daugelaite were honoured at a memorable ceremony which was held on Friday, April 25 in the Concert Hall at the University of Limerick.

There was deep sadness in Longford town and beyond following the death of Sean Kilemade, one of Longford Slashers’ most decorated footballers, on Thursday, April 10. The winner of seven Longford senior football championship medals, Sean died peacefully, surrounded by his loving children, their mother and his siblings at Oakwood Lodge Nursing Home, Dublin. He was predeceased by his parents John and Margaret (Peggy) Kilemade.
