    A Longford to Castlebar motorbike run is being held on Saturday in memory of brave Lucy Croghan, who died after a courageous battle with cancer two years ago, in aid of Aoibheann's Pink Tie, the national children's charity. Lucy Croghan, from An Choirrsceach, Frenchpark, Co Roscommon, was diagnosed with stage 4 Wilms tumour in one of her kidneys before Christmas 2021. She underwent chemotherapy at Crumlin Children's Hospital, but she sadly passed away on June 26, 2023.

    There is large scale illegal peat extraction taking place at four sites in county Longford without any of the necessary authorisations from the local authority. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has today published a report on the practice and it said it has investigated 38 sites across seven counties – Longford, Offaly, Kildare, Laois, Westmeath, Roscommon and Sligo.

The Colmcille man was proposed for the prestigious Cathaoirleach role by his party colleague Cllr Paul Ross and seconded by Cllr Gerry Hagan replacing outgoing chairman Cllr Mark Casey.
