HOOD RIVER — On a warm, sunny Saturday before Memorial Day, approximately 40 people joined the Yasui family to honor immigrants in what was once a segregated section of Idlewilde Cemetery. “We’re here today to memorialize our family members and to remember that we are all immigrants coming into this country,” said Niko Yasui, grandson of Ray and Mikie Yasui, who acted as emcee.

WHITE SALMON — It was a busy meeting for the White Salmon Valley School District (WSVSD) board of directors on May 22. A new Social Emotional Learning curriculum was approved among a number of action items, as was the purchase of a pickup and tractor for the high school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The FFA program received a $40,000 grant last year, part of which will be used to make the two vehicle purchases.

THE GORGE — Unofficial election results are in for Hood River and Wasco counties, with official results to be certified no later than June 26 by 5 p.m.Results will be updated by 5 p.m. today, May 28, to include ballots mailed with postmarks on or before election day. Another update will be issued June 11 to include resolved challenged ballots. Below is a compilation of results from contested races in both counties.
