POESTENKILL — Local ambulance services will soon be available in a rural-suburban Rensselaer County town for the first time in 11 years. Poestenkill has a new contract with Sand Lake EMS to provide 24-hour service in an effort to address protracted ambulance response times. Local officials believe it could go into effect as soon as July, depending on how long it takes for the state Department of Health to approve a certificate of need.

ALBANY — Minor flooding could occur in the Capital Region’s metro core on Saturday as a steady load of rain soaks the Northeast. BRUNSWICK — A Cohoes man who served the minimum sentence for the grisly killing of his friend in 1997 was accused of raping a person Sunday in Brunswick and then forcing the victim to take money out of an ATM. Sunkes, 58, forced the victim to commit sexual acts under the threat of physical harm and then forced them to hand over money from a bank machine in Brunswick, State Police said.
