The debate over what books should be on the shelves of the Huntington Beach Public Library, and how the library system should be managed, came to a head this week as voters approved Measures A and B in a costly special election. The board would have been composed of 21 people appointed by city council members to review books procured by librarians that may contain sexual content. As for Measure B, its approval imposes restrictions on the management of the library.

LOS ANGELES — Lined up on a Wednesday morning, people shuffled in to the SALEF or Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund event. A majority of the people came for the free groceries, picking up rice, carrots and potatoes, but left with information on how to be prepared in the wake of increased ICE activity across Los Angeles. As a result of immigration enforcement operations seen in places such as grocery stores, churches and workplaces, many shared the fear of leaving their homes.
