CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) — A beloved Crete restaurant is getting back on its feet after an overnight fire Wednesday. The damage is forcing Old Main Bar and Grill to shut down for now. “The plans definitely are to open again,” manager Jess Thatcher said. “Whether it’s now, after the investigations conclude, or whether it’s next year, I’m not sure.”Thatcher said she was looking at security camera video of the restaurant when she noticed it was blurry and cloudy.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Darin Byrnes is a recent victim of a bicycle thief in the Near South neighborhood. His camera caught a man going into his backyard and walking away with his bike. And he’s not alone. Lincoln Police data show the number of bike thefts goes up in the spring and summer. In January and February, nine bikes were stolen each month. In May, 23 were stolen, and 32 were stolen in June. Byrnes said people often walk by the area and peer over his fence.

CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) — Latino organizations are coming together to support the victims of last month’s mass shooting in Crete. The Nebraska chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens formed the Latino Alliance to address the shooting and other issues facing Latinos in the state. “The Latino Alliance is really uniting local organizations to help this family, and we have also started to organize donations for the family,” said Juan Carlos Garcia, LULAC of Nebraska’s chief of staff.

(KLKN) — A Lincoln father is raising concerns about the conditions of the city’s baseball fields. “I’m not asking for a $1o million baseball complex by any means,” Korey Reiman said. “It’s just basic upgrades so that meaningful baseball games can be played with our kids.”Reiman, a father of two, said the infield dirt at Jensen and at Standing Bear parks can be dangerous. “This infield is rock hard,” he said.

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – The Fourth of July celebration in Seward is providing a much-needed boost for downtown businesses after a significant road construction project. Gregg Nelson, the owner of two downtown restaurants – Squire Ward’s and Rue 6 – said today is the biggest day for the local economy with thousands of people shopping and eating local. “The town is full, everybody is happy,” Nelson said.
