Medtronic is increasing in-office work requirements to at least four days per week foremployees in the United States who still work some days from home, an internal email from theMedtronic Executive Committee says. The changes will begin to take effect Sept. 2. TheMinnesota-run medical device giant will initially prioritize seven U.S. sites, including operational headquarters in Fridley and locations in Mounds View and Rice Creek, the email said.

Planned Parenthood North Central States is laying off 66 workers, and reassigning an additional 37, as it closes and consolidates eight health centers. The restructuring affects health centers in Apple Valley, Bemidji, Richfield and Alexandria. The centers appear to provide services such as emergency contraception to walk-in patients and prescription services; none provide abortions. The number of Minnesota employees affected by the layoffs wasn't immediately available, a spokesperson said.

Medtronic is spinning off its long-strained diabetes business into an independent company, allowing the medtech giant to focus on high-growth markets, the company announced Wednesday. Although the Diabetes Group grew faster than the Fridley-run devicemaker's other businesses, it also had the lowest total sales in the fiscal year ended April 25.
