Lois Allen was 18 years old in 1955 when she opened her first dance studio, the Lois Allen School of the Dance in Clark, followed the same year by two more, in Newark and Edison. On Friday, May 2, she turned 88, and she is still teaching. Barnegat Light’s Wildflowers boutique and gallery owner Cricket Luker, advocate for the arts and animal rights, has a new idea for a community art project that would celebrate local historic properties and promote preservation efforts, by having artists paint portraits of old buildings to be installed seasonally somewhere in the town. The concept is “Preserving Our History Through Art,” Luker explained.
