On Saturday, May 31, the streets of Tuckerton will once again come alive with music, poetry and art as Tuckerton Porchfest returns for its third unforgettable year. The free, all-ages event will transform front porches of residential homes, local businesses and community spaces into live performance venues from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., showcasing over 30 local musicians, poets, performers and visual artists across seven stages.

The Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen’s Museum is getting warmed up for an active season of indoor and outdoor fun, from interactive exhibits to folk art classes to boat tours, and everything in between. Visitors can explore the many exhibits at their leisure with a self-guided tour. Stop into the lighthouse to pay the $5 entry fee, and pick up an activity guidebook to make the most of the visit. Spring has been busy for the Jersey Shore Quilts of Valor chapter, launched just last year in order to present warm tokens of gratitude to local veterans in our region. Two quilts were presented to World War II Merchant Marine veterans, Able-Bodied Seaman Raymond L. Mombelardi and Lt. Cmdr. Thomas H. Reilly at the Haddonfield American Legion Post #38 surrounded by their family and friends. Dennis J. Ng, president of the New Jersey American Merchant Marine Veterans Association, presided over the event.

Cranberries – we eat them every day in our salads, jams and sauces, not even realizing their historical significance. The Tuckerton Historical Society invites the community to the Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum in Little Egg Harbor from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 for a presentation by Horace Somes. Wild cranberries, found right in our Pine Barrens, were harvested prehistorically by Native Americans who handpicked the bogs and streamsides.
