    Matthew Stafford led his Los Angeles Rams to a surprise appearance in the NFC Divisional Playoffs this season. The veteran quarterback returned from an injury-plagued 2023 campaign and looked like his former self. This came before a 2024 offseason in which there was a contract stalemate between Stafford and the Rams. The two sides settled on restructured deal back in July. Turning 37 on Friday, there is no telling how much longer Stafford will be suiting up.

On the eve of the NBA trade deadline, multiple media reports indicate that Butler has been sent out west as part of a five-team trade. The other centerpiece is fellow wing Andrew Wiggins heading to Miami. Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to report the details of the trade.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year shockingly requested a trade from Cleveland earlier in the week. The former No. 1 pick from Texas A&M cited the need to win as one of his primary reasons for requesting the trade.

San Francisco fired defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen after just one season. It faced the real possibility of having to hire a fourth different man to helm this position in as many years. As the coaching cycle played out, it became clear that Saleh was the 49ers’ only real target to take over a talented defense. There was no Plan B.
