The 2025 college baseball season is upon us. Vanderbilt Baseball will make its official return to the diamond at the MLB Desert Invitational from Feb. 14–16. The Commodores will look to rebound after a disappointing 2024 season that saw them finish 38-23 (13-17 SEC), their worst conference record since the 2009 season. The Commodores’ bats struggled to generate power all last season. They ranked fifth in the SEC in batting average (.286) but finished with just 72 home runs, 13th in the SEC.

Vanderbilt Swimming floundered in its return to the pool on Jan. 3, getting shown up by Kentucky at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tennessee, in its first meet since the Gamecock Invitational. Seniors Mercedes Traba and Kailia Utley found the podium multiple times but couldn’t tip the scales in Vanderbilt’s favor. The 200-yard medley relay team of Aubrey Hull, Emily Constable, Karsyn Cook and Reagan Mathieson grabbed second with a time of 1:44.50 to kick off the meet.

Three Commodores — first-year Aubrey Hull, senior Kailia Utley and graduate Libby Gilbert — represented Vanderbilt Swimming at this year’s Toyota U.S. Open in Greensboro, North Carolina, from Dec. 5-7. The trio did not participate in the first day of competition, which was reserved for relay races. Hull ended an outstanding fall season with an exclamation point at the Open. The first-year competed in three events: the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke.

Vanderbilt Football’s 2024 regular season has been nothing short of exciting. From the Commodores’ tragic loss at the hands of Georgia State to their sensational upset of former No. 1 Alabama, there’s been action all year on West End. With that action comes the return of something that Commodore Nation hasn’t experienced since 2018 — postseason play. Head coach Clark Lea and his team are going bowling, though the details — when, where and against who — of the game won’t be revealed until Dec. 8.

The 64-team bracket for the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament was announced on Nov. 11. Vanderbilt Soccer (9-3-6) will host Lipscomb in the first round of the single-elimination regional on Nov. 15. The Commodores were given the No. 8 seed for their region, marking the second time in program history the team has been seeded in the NCAA tournament. Vanderbilt’s crosstown rival earned an automatic berth into the tournament after taking down Eastern Kentucky to win the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.

Vanderbilt Football (5-3, 2-2 SEC) needs one more win to secure bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018 after a close loss to then-No. 5 Texas in Week Nine, and its matchup this week against Auburn (3-5, 1-4) is its best chance to do so. The Commodores will face South Carolina (4-3, 2-3), No. 16 LSU and No. 7 Tennessee after Auburn — so if Clark Lea’s group can’t get the job done this week, their bowl hopes will fade.

It wasn’t pretty, but when the dust settled and Glenn Seabrooks III sang, Vanderbilt Football stood on top on Saturday. Vanderbilt’s games against Alabama and Kentucky were slugfests, and Ball State was no exception. After entering this weekend as the first team outside of the AP Poll, the Commodores needed a statement win over a hapless Ball State team to crack the top 25. The Commodores bounced the Cardinals 24-14 at FirstBank Stadium despite coming in as 25-point favorites.
