Richland voters later this year will have the chance to elect a father-son duo to the city council. Filing week for elections this year closed 5 p.m. Friday. More than 130 candidates in both Benton and Franklin counties filed paperwork to run in nearly 90 local, nonpartisan races. On Monday, council incumbent Kurt Maier filed for a second term. Then, late Thursday, his 18-year-old son John registered for another seat on the council, one that’s being vacated by Ryan Lukson, a former mayor.

The future of Kennewick’s vacant Farmers Exchange complex is uncertain after a foreclosure auction set for Friday was postponed. The property is now set to be sold to the highest bidder at 10 a.m., May 23, at the entrance to the Benton County Justice Center, 7122 W. Okanogan Place, in Kennewick. A process server who announced the delay told the small crowed that gathered for the sale no reason would be given for the delay.

Kennewick, WAIt’s happening. A-1 Hospitality Group is breaking ground on its five-story AC Hotel by Marriott at the Three Rivers Convention Center on May 20. The now-$47 million, 162-room hotel will be built in tandem with a $71.3 million convention center expansion that began in April. The public-private partnership will modernize the convention center by adding larger spaces and more rooms to serve larger audiences and gatherings.
