Rider dies on Great Ocean Road

A motorcyclist has died after a collision with a ute on the Great Ocean Road on Friday morning. The crash happened around 10.30am in Eastern View, where it’s understood a grey Ford Ranger towing a caravan collided with the motorbike. The yet to formally identified rider sadly died at the scene, while the driver of the Ford wasn’t injured.

There has been a major emergency response on the Bellarine Peninsula on Friday morning, after a helicopter carrying three people crashed off Point Lonsdale. It’s believed the chopper was seen crashing into water off Fellows Road just after 10am, with all three on board managing to make it to shore, where they located by passersby.

An alleged drink driver has been caught more the double the speed limit in the early hours of Thursday morning in Moolap. Police doing their regular patrols a silver Toyota travelling at excessive speed down Ryrie Street in the East Geelong area. Perusing officers managed to catch up with the car on Portarlington Road in Moolap, police saying a roadside speed camera picked up the vehicle travelling 130km/h in the 60-zone.
Suspicious car fire in Moolap

Police will investigate after a car was found well alight in Moolap on Wednesday morning. Fire crews were called to the blaze on Woods Rd around 6.20am, finding the vehicle on fire and bringing it under control within 15 minutes. The blaze had caused a small grass fire around the scene as well, but there was no threat of spreading.

The 15-year-old hasn’t been seen since he was in Jan Juc on March 9, with police concerned about the amount of time he has been missing. Close to 30 drink and drug drivers have been busted across the Geelong region as part of a statewide policing operation during the school holidays. Operation Compass ran for 10 days from Easter up until the Anzac Day long weekend, seeing a huge number of offences detected on local roads. 12 people were nabbed for drink driving, with 15 picked up under the influence of drugs among close to 300 total offences over the course of the operation locally.

A teenage boy has been charged after allegedly speeding off on police officers through a roadside breath test site in Corio on Sunday evening. Police say an officer told the 17-year-old to park on the side of Cox Road around 5.30pm, when he allegedly accelerated through the site, narrowly missing police officers. It’s alleged he drove at over 90km/h in the 60-zone, and was seen weaving through traffic on his way home.

Local hope Xavier Huxtable has put in of the best performances of his surfing career, beating ex-champ and world number one Italo Ferreira at the Rip Curl Pro. The win sees the Jan Juc local advance to the round of 16, winning with a solid score of 13.66 in the first heat of Friday’s action. Ferraira bundled out in the Round of 32, the Brazilian won the comp back in 2018 and is also an Olympic gold medallist winning in Tokyo.

Two local youths have been missing for over a week, with police calling on locals to provide information. 11-year-old Kira-Amber and 15-year-old Alanah were both last seen in Lara on April 16. Police say they are concerned due to their age and amount of time they’ve both been missing.
