SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office hosted the 27th Women in Criminal Justice Conference Friday. This year’s theme was “Paving the Way for Women in Criminal Justice: Lasting Impressions.” The conference brought together people from most of the law enforcement agencies around the Commonwealth, as well as representatives from Connecticut and Virginia.
State Auditor finds UMass Amherst outsourcing fundraising operations violates law

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The Office of the State Auditor has determined that UMass Amherst violated the law when it outsourced fundraising operations from the school to the UMass Amherst Foundation, privatizing more than 125 state jobs at the school. The report from the OSA says this move violated the Taxpayer Protection Act, and that the school should have sought a determination from the state prior to privatizing those jobs.
MGM Springfield boosts kids’ literacy with book donation

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – MGM Springfield partnered once again with Link to Libraries Friday afternoon to support children’s literacy within Springfield schools. Link to Libraries is a nonprofit that aims to increase access to reading for children. They say they’ve provided over one million books to kids since their organization was formed in 2008. 22News asked the organizers of this event about why it’s important to promote reading.

The video has circulated around quickly, and many officials have condemned the remarks made by Warwick and Wells.
South Hadley building destroyed after partial collapse

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – A building in South Hadley collapsed over the weekend. On Sunday, the South Hadley Police Department issued a travel advisory, stating that Main Street was blocked from Lower North Main to High Street as the roof of the building had partially collapsed. Those streets are now back open. When our 22News crew went by on Monday, the building was a pile of rubble and a bulldozer was cleaning up some of the debris.
Chicopee man wanted for murder arrested in South Carolina

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee man wanted for murder in Vermont was arrested in South Carolina last week. According to Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department in South Carolina, 18-year-old Elizah Coppedge was arrested on Sunday, May 19 in Greenwood, South Carolina. He’s being held for charges of possession of one ounce or less of marijuana and as a fugitive from justice warrant. Coppedge is a suspect in the killing of Casey Gras, 36, of Bennington, Vermont on February 6, 2024.
Memorial Day ceremony held at Holyoke War Memorial Building

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke held a Memorial Day ceremony at the War Memorial Building on Appleton Street Monday. The ceremony was hosted by the Patriotic Events Committee. Holyoke’s interim Director of Veterans Services, Luz Ortiz Rivera, told 22News that they wanted to teach people about the difficulties of serving in the armed forces, and show appreciation for the city’s veterans.

He was born on an Air Force base in New York in 1967, there because his dad chose "serve in Vietnam" over "get thrown back over the border to Canada", and raised in Bristol, Connecticut. Growing up, my dad was a lot of things. Artist, Strat-O-Matic hockey league commissioner, the Ken Dryden of the St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church parking lot.
