Dozens of people living near a small town in Southern Oregon are under evacuation orders due to a rapidly growing wildfire, which has triggered Gov. Tina Kotek to declare an emergency. The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office estimated the Tiller Trail Fire, also known as the Dixon Incident, was burning 3,000-5,000 acres near Tiller, an incorporated community in Douglas County about 28 miles southeast of Roseburg.

Kien Truong and his family have been living in Southeast Portland for nearly a decade. He recalls how, as new immigrants from Vietnam, his parents were too busy adjusting to their new life in the United States and didn’t speak English well enough to participate in community events. One summer, though, Truong and his siblings discovered a weekend activity their parents could enjoy. “We tried to bring them to events like the Jade Night Market. My mom went to one and she loved it,” he said.
