XAVIER SMITH Main Street Media Susie Eakes, the first female EMT hired by the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency, died last month. She was 77. Eakes died May 11 at her Watertown home. Eakes was the first paid female EMT for WEMA and started in the agency in 1981 when it was named the Civil Defense. She worked as an EMT, firefighter and lieutenant until her retirement in December 2009. “She was probably one of the sweetest women you’d ever meet,” WEMA Division Chief Shannon Cooper said.

Lebanon will look to implement sanitation fees to offset the rising costs of garbage pickup services after the Lebanon City Council divided its vote on the issue. The council voted, 4-2 during its May 20 meeting to implement the fees with Camille Burdine and Geri Ashley the “no” votes. A second reading is scheduled for the Tuesday, June 3 meeting and if approved, the fees will take effect July 1.

XAVIER SMITH Main Street Media Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell pulled an ordinance aimed at upgrading the Fred Burton Park in Ward 2 during the May 20 Lebanon City Council at the request of some church leaders in the city. The Church of God Board of Bishops, which oversees the Lebanon Church of God, requested to remove the ordinance from city council consideration, according to Bell.

The commission approved plans for the Reserve at Tate Lane, a medium-density development on about 18 acres on Tate Lane north of the Victory Baptist Church property. The Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners previously approved a preliminary master plan for the development as Lynnhaven Phase III in 2014.
