AbstractThe development of noninvasive approaches to precisely control neural activity in mammals is highly desirable. Here, we used the ion channel transient receptor potential ankyrin-repeat 1 (TRPA1) as a proof of principle, demonstrating remote near-infrared (NIR) activation of endogenous neuronal channels in mice through an engineered nanoagonist. This achievement enables specific neurostimulation in nongenetically modified mice.

AbstractJapanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a major threat to human health. Bangladesh is considering introducing a JEV vaccine; however, the investment case is hampered by a limited understanding of key aspects of JEV ecology. We conducted a seroprevalence study in a high-incidence region using an assay that limits cross-reactivity with dengue virus. We also trapped mosquitoes and collected information about potential host species.

AbstractMechanical stretching is commonly used for mesogen alignment which is essential for the muscle-like actuations of liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs). Despite the simplicity of the method, the mesogens are typically aligned in the stretching direction, limiting exclusively the LCE to an actuation mode of cooling-induced elongation.
