People on Vancouver Island are committed to making their vote count in the upcoming federal election, particularly as the world watches Donald Trump’s presidency and its impact on cross-border relations with Canada. Pollsters and political pundits say Canada-U.S. tensions have been shaking up national polls, setting up intriguing races on Vancouver Island in the 2025 federal election – including Nanaimo-Ladysmith, North Island-Powell River, Victoria and Saanich-Gulf Islands.

After community pushback, Tofino council has approved a motion to ask the B.C. government to be exempt from the province’s Short-Term Rental Accommodation Regulations and opt-out of the principal residence requirement. Staff are being asked to submit the request to B.C.’s housing minister before March 31, 2025. “I’m very thrilled, quite over the moon,” says Andrew Sadler, a Tofino resident. Sadler lives in a long-term rental where there’s a short-term accommodation suite on the property.

Hi there. I'm looking to hear from families about their experience finding and accessing maternity care on Vancouver Island for @CTVNewsVI. Is this you or someone you know? Please reach out at [email protected] or DM.

Have you dealt with or are you dealing with the BC's residential tenancy branch? Would love to hear your experience for a story today.

I just learned one of my daughter's favourite ECE's is leaving #yyj and moving to Calgary, because it doesn't make financial sense to be here anymore. What a shame. I can't say I blame her.
