A 19-year-old from Charlotte was killed and another person was injured early Sunday in a shooting at Winston-Salem State University, school officials said. The shooting happened at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of Lot W, near Wilson Hall and Gleason-Hairston Terrace. School officials placed the campus on lockdown from 1:30 to 4:50 a.m."Something just didn't feel right and we were driving onto campus and I saw the alarms and I had got the text message alert," said one student.

Rescue divers in Dare County recovered the body of a Raleigh pilot from the wreckage of a plane in Croatan Sound on Monday. The body of Greg Carlisle, 49, was found Monday in the wreckage of the two-engine airplane that crashed Sunday morning in Croatan Sound. Carlisle's father, Jack Carlisle, said his son was flying along the coast to earn hours in the cockpit to maintain his certification. Authorities said Greg Carlisle landed just short of the airfield due to dense fog.

A student protest at Duke University continued through Monday afternoon, but Duke officials said that negotiations with students will cease until the group voluntarily leaves the building they have occupied since Friday. Duke University President Richard Brodhead met Sunday afternoon with nine protesters in their second day occupying his office's waiting room to demand the firing of three administrators and a $15 per hour minimum wage for all campus workers.
