The Potter County Jail Board took steps at the Nov. 17 meeting to facilitate the hiring of a new deputy warden before the new year. Board members reported that six individuals have responded to the job posting for the deputy warden position. Three were been deemed incompatible with the position and the other three will be put forward for consideration.

Potter County is on the brink of having three commissioners from the same party for the first time in history. The unofficial Potter County 2023 municipal election results are now available, with all 29 of the precincts counted. There were 4,468 ballots cast out of 10,314 registered voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 43.43%. Voters in Potter County selected three republican commissioners. Nancy J. Grupp received 2,737 votes, Paul W Heimel received 2,721 votes and write-in Robert W.

Crafters gathered at the YMCA in Mansfield to sell their art and support cancer survivors for the Crafts for a Cause event on Saturday, Nov. 11. The event was held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and the proceeds will go to the LiveStrong program. Along with the craft vendors, visitors had the option to purchase 50/50 tickets and participate in a basket raffle. According to Wellness Director Tasha Pratt, the LiveStrong program is offered at no cost to participants because of events like Crafts for a Cause.

The Coolidge Foundation and Southwestern Energy presented a check for $5,000 to the Public Safety Training Institute at the Commonwealth University’s Mansfield campus on Monday, Nov. 12. “On behalf of the university and Mansfield campus, I want to express our appreciation for the Coolidge Foundation’s support,” said Senior Associate Dean Josh Battin.

The Coudersport school district’s participation in a public energy savings program has resulted in savings for the district and a chance to refinance its debt. Business manager John Abplanalp reported at the Nov. 13 Coudersport school board meeting that the program allowed the district to hire a contractor to make improvements like upgrading its HVAC system while guaranteeing a reduction in total energy usage.
