As storms erupted overnight, the KNWA Weather Team was live, closely tracking a line of severe storms moving into the region. One cell, warned for severe weather with a “tornado possible” tag, intensified near Highfill, about two miles west of Vaughn, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. It went on to produce a confirmed EF-1 tornado. The twister’s damage path tracked just north-northwest of Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.

This unusual appearance was caused by smoke from the Canadian wildfires, which had drifted into our region and significantly reduced visibility. As seen below, the smoke across our area was quite dense:The smoke originated from wildfires that are ongoing across Central Canada.
