    Just a few months ago, Shedeur Sanders was in discussion to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. The event's first 32 picks have come and gone without the Colorado quarterback finding a home in the pros. Tomorrow is, of course, a new day, and Sanders enters the second day of the draft as the top quarterback on the board. He certainly didn't expect to be in this situation, as evidenced by the elaborate draft party he hosted in Boulder.

    Typically, an NFL franchise will only trade a future first-round pick to jump up into the top of the NFL draft, often to take a quarterback or another game-changing talent. The Jacksonville Jaguars did just that to move up to No. 2 to select wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter. Hours later, the Atlanta Falcons did the same thing in a much more unconventional move to take Tennessee defensive end James Pearce Jr. with the No. 26 pick.

    Quarterback Gevani McCoy entered the transfer portal last week after just under four minutes with the Texas State Bobcats. On Wednesday, McCoy reportedly signed with the Temple Owls per On3's Pete Nakos. McCoy began his career at the University of Idaho, where he spent three seasons and threw for 5,834 yards with 43 touchdowns and 19 interceptions, completing 65 percent of his passes. He then transferred to Oregon State for the 2024 campaign, where he began the year as the Beavs' starter.

OSU head coach Dawn Shockley was selected as the WCC Women's Golf Coach of the Year after guiding the Beavers to their first conference title.     The high school portion of the 115th Drake Relays started on Thursday as rain, wind and relatively cold weather greeted fans and athletes in Des Moines from Drake Stadium. More events hit the Blue Oval of America’s Athletic Classic on Friday before concluding Saturday. There will also be professional athletes, college, university and more all in action. Claiming the first title in the high school division was Landon Prince, as the Clear Creek-Amana standout thrower won gold in the boys shot put.
