The Pittsburgh Pirates fired manager Derek Shelton on Thursday and named bench coach Don Kelly manager for the remainder of the 2025 season. The Pirates entered the weekend 12-26, losers of seven in a row, are in last place in the NL Central, and are the second-worst team in the NL, ahead of the Colorado Rockies (6-31). Though they did get a win last night against the Atlanta Braves.

The Pirates announced on Friday that INF/OF Ji Hwan Bae is returning to the Pirates before the Atlanta Braves series. Multiple reports stated Bae has a locker at PNC Park and was set to return to the team. The Pirates placed first baseman Enmanuel Valdez on the 10-day IL to clear room on the roster.
