May 13, 2025 By KAREN VELIEDespite mutiple calls reporting the neglect of a young boy, San Luis Obispo County social workers appear to have failed to protect the 6-year-old child who allegedly died after being left in a car while his father went to work on Saturday. Briant Reyes Estrada, a 27-year-old Mexican national, worked and lived in Cambria in 2023 and 2024 with his son. The child’s mother reportedly lives in Mexico.

May 13, 2025 By KAREN VELIEDeputies recently arrested a Goleta man for child sex crimes and are asking the public to help them identify additional survivors. Last month, detectives launched an investigation into lewd images of children and identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shaun Donald Hertlein of Goleta. Detectives also learned that Hertlein worked with children through his affiliation with a church on Cathedral Oaks Road as well as assistant coaching for freshman boys football.

The workers overwhelmingly approved the strike with a 100% vote following months of failed negotiations. The workers accuse Planned Parenthood’s management of continued bad-faith bargaining.

While the man worked from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the 6 or 7-year-old child was left in the vehicle. Paso Robles experienced a record breaking 99 degree high temperature on Saturday. Paso Robles officers arrested Briant Reyes Estrada on Sunday morning.

Gavin Newsom recently provided a template for an ordinance for cities and counties to adopt to help local officials put an end to the many homeless encampments that have proliferated throughout the state. Newsom directed the California Interagency Council on Homelessness to create guidance and a sample ordinance for local governments to follow in creating and implementing homeless camping rules.
